The CD contains piano works by Boulez from two chronological opposites: Incises and the ultra-short but spectacular Fragment d’une ébauche were written in Boulez’ later period, while the two world premiere recordings of Theme and Variations for the Left Hand and Three Psalmodies, were two of the composer’s very early works. The Boulez heirs gave special permission to record those works, which remind one of a.o. Messiaen, while clearly already foreshadowing stylistic elements of the later Boulez.
